The Jacobite rebellions were about the restoration of the Scottish House of Stewart/ Stuart (the royal Scottish family) to the throne after the revolution of 1688. The latin term for James being 'Jacobus' begat the name 'Jacobite', meaning a supporter of King James II and the restoration of the Royal Scottish House of Stewart/Stuart. The Political movement of Jacobitism, ended in 1745 at the infamous Battle of Culloden.
