Book: Four Sons of Skye
(NZ$35) plus p&p
The book goes into depth about the history and origins of this old Scottish family, tracing families lines from the clans progenitor John Tolmach MacRory MacLeod, himself descended from Leod Olafson through to the current head of the Tolmie Clan in New Zealand.
Illustrated with maps, genealogical tables, appendices the book is a good source of detailed information about the Tolmie Clan and their Scottish origins and connections with other old Scottish families such as MacKenzie, MacDonald, and MacAskill lines. Descendants of the same name also include Tolme and Ptolemy.
The book picks up from H. H McKenzie's (1941) work, including following the eldest family line and direct descendants who emigrated to New Zealand entering into the banking, mercantile, and later farming industries. These 'sons of Skye' were four brothers who arrived in a colonial New Zealand, each making his own mark on a new land, as direct descendants of John Tolmach MacRory MacLeod.
